PMBA Architects completed a new 15,000 SF Hybrid OR and EP Lab building addition to the existing Heart Center to provide patients with access to the most advanced cardiovascular care available in the region.
The first floor of the new facility includes an electrophysiology lab that expands McLaren St. Luke's current range of procedures for cardiac arrhythmia disorders, including cardiac pacemakers and defibrillator implantations.
The second floor of the building addition includes the hybrid operating room, which combines an operating room and a catherization lab and allows for less invasive vascular procedures with the safety of a full-capacity cardiovascular operation room.
The building addition was designed around phased construction, to allow the existing Heart Center to stay in full operation while construction occurred. Having designed the original Heart Center, PMBA's prior knowledge of the existing building was integral to the success of the project in coordinating the complex requirements of the Hybrid OR and EP Lab under an expedited project schedule. With the new building addition, the Heart Center now totals 35,000 SF.
