Job Summary

PMBA Architects is seeking a talented, collaborative, and industrious leader for the newly formed Director of Architecture role. An exciting new leadership position within this expanding, wellness-focused design firm could be the growth opportunity you’ve been seeking. As Director of Architecture, you will oversee and lead multiple projects through all phases of design and implement strategies that will best meet the client’s needs, budgets, and timelines. This position will be responsible for bringing an integrated approach to design, management, and technical project resolution. The Director of Architecture will set the firm standards of design and documentation for overall quality assurance, meeting project deadlines, deliverables, and provide our clients with responsive designs that support their building users and communities. This position will directly manage staff to ensure all projects are on schedule and employees are fully utilized.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Direct oversight and responsibility for architectural design team (including team leaders, project architects, project managers, and designers)

  • Lead, inspire, and emphasize team atmosphere

  • Lead project teams in a manner that develops confidence, efficiency, and productivity, while promoting the growth and development of all team members

  • Plans and supports the training and development for staff to meet the needs of the business

  • Lead the development of quality control and design standards to accurately complete technical drawings

  • Proactively addresses the technical quality issues and knowledge base of the team through the development of processes, identifying and providing needed training, and addressing individual performance issues

  • Budget, schedule, direct teams, prioritize multiple projects and deadlines, and communicate with internal partners and clients effectively and efficiently

  • Manage and evaluate the performance of team members – setting goals, measuring employee performance, communicating performance opportunities, and administering performance improvement plans

  • Performs quality assurance checks for completeness, accuracy, meeting standards, specifications, and safety/code requirements

  • Oversees project teams and collaborates with clients, engineers, planners and other industry professionals to ensure ease and continuity of communication throughout projects

  • Monitors budget to ensure project is progressing in a cost effective and timely manner alongside project team leaders

  • Executes and enhances the design intent of projects while working closely with project teams to develop construction documents

  • Determines compliance with technical documents and industry specific standards and codes

  • Demonstrates creativity, foresight and mature architectural judgement in anticipating and solving unprecedented architectural problems

  • Manage, provide oversight, and deliver the production of construction documents for projects of all sizes and scope

  • Ensures project teams are utilizing accepted office standards as guidelines

  • Meets required deadlines, which periodically could require long hours

  • Assists with retaining and cultivating current client relationships and assist with the development and marketing of new client relationships

  • Participate in the orchestration and strategy of client design presentations

  • Collaborates with inhouse marketing team on RFPs, marketing, and business development opportunities

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Relationship builder who can expand our firm’s impact by participating in firm introduction meetings, interviews, and presentations

  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop and other related software

  • Ability to translate client ideas into visual and/or tangible references such as drawings or models

  • Knowledge of building codes and regulatory standards

  • Willingness to travel if needed

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture required, Master’s degree preferred

  • Registered Architect required

  • Twelve or more years of relevant experience  

  • Healthcare design experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
